I keep hearing that “all the good domain names are already taken” and that there is nothing left to hand reg.

Not so. There are still plenty of 2 and 3-word generic keyword domain names available for registration out there. The trick is to find them.

Case in point: WholesaleFlour.com.

I found this using the Estibot Long-Tail tool, and hand registered it. I had AEIOU.com make a minisite for it, and it went to position #5 on Google for “wholesale flour” within a few weeks of going live.

Today I received an inquiry through the contact form on the website:

We own a cookie company called ****** LLC. We go through hundreds of pounds of flour each week. Is it possible we can get a rate sheet from you and do you deliver. Thanks.

It’s a minisite for chrissakes. Why isn’t it a website for a flour wholesale company? Because they a) don’t know about the power of domain names and never registered it, b) they don’t know about the power of domain names and are not willing to cough up enough to make me a decent offer for the name.

Let’s say wheat flour costs about $50 per 100 pounds. These guys wanted to order hundreds of pounds per week, say 500 pounds. That’s $250 per week. Multiply that by weeks in a year (52) and you just closed missed a $13,000 deal because you didn’t own the domain name.

That’s the power of domain names: They are the seed of business. Even hand registered ones.

I got inspired and just searched for more available names using the Estibot Long Tail and Available-Plus tools. I regged some, including BuyFlour.com. Not bad, considering this:

Flour prices going up: Pizzerias buying flour like white gold

I also searched for more Wholesale related names, regged a few including LanyardsWholesale.com. Here’s a list of some that I found. They are still available for registration. Enjoy!

Pleased to present my latest tool: The Semantic Domain Name Finder ALPHA

I also call this the ‘Lazy Man’s Domain Finder’.

It’s another one of those resource hogs, so I had to limit access to
Domainer Pro and Exclusive members. You can find the tool in the
navigation bar, it’s the last one.

Please remember this is a very early version - first working version in
fact.

This tool will take any input, text, web page, etc…For instance, you
could input a piece of news, a paragraph in an article, or just a web
page.

It will then analyze the keywords within your input, and find potentially
good keyword combinations related to the text.

The tool will then perform a preliminary check for availability, and
output a list of potentially good available domain names along with some
basic keyword data.

It’s a pretty cool tool to spend some time with. It does come up with some
interesting names. Just a little bit of testing found these names for
instance:

ManagingOutsourcing.com
OpportunitiesAgency.com
ArsenalManager.com
SoftwareChallenges.com
IncomeAccounting.com
EmployeeConfidentiality.com
InformationMonitoring.com
OccupationalEmployment.com
TransportationShuttles.com
StaffingPolicies.com
ManagementPitfalls.com

Tip: Don’t input too much text at once. A good size is a paragraph, or a
single-screen web page.

Enjoy, good hunting!

Parking income is not so great these days. I feel that minisite development is a better option. The way I look for domains with the tools is sort them by OVT, Wordtracker, Google phrase, #ads, PPC bid - all in turn. Then look at the top domains with each sorting. Then I pick the ones that sound good, make perfect sense (medicalAirTransport.com, LTLTransportation.com, SeatCanes.com) but not the ones that don’t make sense (CaneSeat.com, AndAffiliate.com) - I require that a domain describes a product perfectly, that it is natural language or widely used term. It should have some search popularity also.

Two words is best, three is OK, and four words is sometimes acceptable if the term is extra strong. If all that is combined to a high PPC max bid, then the domain is on my shortlist. Make no mistake, I reg 1 domain for every 10,000 or so that I find…

Additionally I have started copy-pasting the Estibot domain list to Google Adwords keyword tool. It will show fresh Google data for the domain, including PPC bid and search popularity. If the search popularity is in the hundreds (exact) and there is advertiser competition and preferably an above $1 CPC bid, then the domain is a strong candidate, provided that it makes sense as a term. I hope to integrate fresh Google data to Estibot somehow, but not quite there yet.

Also with Estibot you can find domain names that may be accepted to the Domain Distribution Network (fabulousdomains.com) and could make money from that.

In the true weekend-warrior tradition, I’ve engaged in some serious coding over this weekend, and happy to say I came up with yet another power tool to speed up your workflow and help you find valuable domain names. Available Domain Finder - “PLUS” (you can find this in the navigation bar under “Available Domains Plus”) This tool works much like the Long Tail tool, but this time it searches for terms that have your keyword at the _end_ of the term. It will also perform a 100% accurate domain availability check so there is no need to verify availability. It will output only the available domain names, along with the keywords and keyword statistics. At the end of the page you will find copiable text lists of the domains and the corresponding keywords. TIP: Click on the ‘keyword’ cell in the table to open up Google AdTest in a new window - this is great for getting an instant look at the keyword market value - pay attention to the number and quality of Adwords ads that appear. This tool is extremely resource-intensive. Exclusive members get 2,000 domains checked in one go, Pro members get 100. Unfortunately free or domainer members don’t get this functionality because it would kill the servers. If you’re serious about domaining, maybe it’s time to go Exclusive. I have personally registered hundreds of domains using these tools - domains that are 100% comparable to domain names that have been recently sold in the aftermarket for over $1k. Look at the Domain Distribution Network for instance. A few weeks ago I hand registered a domain name that is making $5 per day in parking PPC - MedicalAirTransport.com - That one domain alone is worth more in PPC than the Exclusive membership fee! The Exclusive membership should be well worth the money. Of course, in domaining, the trick is to find a buyer, so I can’t guarantee any results for you. On another note, Safari woes continue. I have no idea what it is with Mac Safari - it used to be my #1 browser, but not anymore. I can’t get the Estibot bulk tools to work properly with Safari, so I recommend all Mac users use Firefox with Estibot. Windows users should have no problems with IE or Firefox. Also, I’m working to incorporate the new keyword parser to the Fast Bulk Tool, Portfolio Appraisal and Domain List Scanner. It should improve the performance of those tools quite a bit. One more thing, I’m still trying to find the cause for discrepancies between the bulk appraisal and single appraisal - please bear with me. I’d like to give thanks again to you my members who have been very active in reporting bugs and suggesting improvements - I continue to believe that I have the coolest member roster in the domaining world! Couldn’t do this without your help. That’s it for now - thanks for your continued support of Estibot

The Available Domain Name Tool now supports ALL tld’s. That’s right, all of them. The multi-TLD tool is in BETA, and it is not 100% accurate, but it’s still pretty good. To be exact, the error frequency is 6% across the board, with some TLD’s more accurate than others. This is a compromise between speed and accuracy. So- occasionally you may see some domains marked as ‘available’ when they are in fact taken. Still, the tool works 94% of the time. With some TLD’s such as .asia, the accuracy is worse. With others it is better. Double check with the single-appraisal tool or your favorite bulk whois tool. The .COM tool is still 100% accurate, and I’ve kept it separate from this one. Quotas for Estibot Pro members have been upgraded to 300 results per search. Quota for Estibot Pro Exclusive members have been upgraded to 2,000 results per search. There is no limit to how many searches you can do.
